This slideshow is too cool. It shows the pit bulls seized at Michael Vick’s illegal pit bull fighting facility becoming a part of the normal pet world.
I used to own a pit bull. His name was Cujo. A brindle and white pit bull, he was tall for his breed, and weighed 60 pounds. When out on the lead in the yard, he would scare the crap out of anyone walking up the street. I mean, they would stop dead in their tracks and stare. I could never figure out why. To me, he didn’t look scarey. He was muscular, though.
He was the perfect pet, sweet and gentle. At night, if I was alone, I would lock him in my room with me. I figured if anyone broke in, they would have to deal with him first. If they were like the passersby, they would freak out and leave.
Cujo died several years ago of cancer.

It still amazes me that anyone uses animal fighting as a way to make a buck.
I hate to say this but Pit Bulls are probably the only animal I am scared of, too unpredictable, even in the right hands in my opinion. eeekkk.

This dog was not that way at all. He was a big sweetheart. Unpredictability is for cats. hehe (j/k)
There is something to be said for having a protective dog in the bedroom. With MacKenzie guarding me, I feel safe.

Ummm gotta disagree here…. With…”Perfect Pet”…
Stats… Rottweilers and pit bull-type dogs accounted for 67% of human dog bite related fatalities in the US between 1997 and 1998… (Ummm… and I’m guessing those to breeds don’t make up 67% of the total population of dogs in the US right?)
And to chew on….
Severe injuries occur almost exclusively in children less than 10 years of age.
The majority of dog attacks (61%) happen at home or in a familiar place.
The vast majority of biting dogs (77%) belong to the victim’s family or a friend.
Don’t get me wrong, I love dogs… But choose your breed wisely… A well trained dog is still just a dog…
Ciao Ciao
Don’t get me wrong… a dog has to be right for his/her environment. At the time Cujo was around, there were no kids in the house. However, once there was a kid, there was a cocker spaniel who bit the kid in the face. 😦 Traumatic, but could have been a lot worse than it was.
There is a lot to be said for mixing golden retrievers with children. A perfect combination.
