An Omaha Shopping Center

Different mall, but I was interested to see how very PACKED it was today. Later on tonight, I went into the mall, and purchased something for Christmas. I wandered around the atrium and into a couple of stores. It was a little wierd, to be honest, but you know… a girl cannot be afraid of the mall. 🙂

Ready for the Darn Carpet

We are strategically moving our furniture about the house to only the rooms where no new carpet is going. This involves the kitchen, dining room, two bathrooms and the downstairs living room. I think everything will fit, but it’s just getting it there.

My husband is using this opportunity to go through boxes sitting in his closet, unpacked, for 5 years. I am not sure why I glared at him for doing that. It just felt right at the time. 🙂

So, we’ve been 3 or 4 weeks with bare floors and those carpet tacking strips bare along the wall. Gotta watch where you walk, and not only the humans, but also the dogs. Hopefully, they haven’t been stabbed too much.

Here’s a “before” shot for you. It is the “office”, otherwise known as “the computer room.” I’ll get the “after” shot to you on Thursday.

Turn To Yourself
You Are The One You Are Waiting For

We spend a lot of our lives looking for role models, mentors, teachers, and gurus to guide us on our path. There is nothing wrong with this and, in fact, finding the right person at the right time can really help. However, it is important to realize that in the absence of such a figure, we can very safely rely upon ourselves. We carry within us everything we need to know to make progress on our paths to self-realization. The outer world serves as a mirror. Or to use another metaphor, our inner world has a magnetic force that draws to us what we need to evolve to the next level. All we need to do to see that we already have everything we need is to let go of our belief that we need to seek in order to find.

The path of the spirit is often defined as a journey with a goal such as the fabled pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. In this metaphor, a person begins a search for something they want but do not have and then they find it, and there is a happy ending. However, most of us know that getting what we want only makes us happy for a moment, and then the happiness passes until a new object of desire presents itself. Joy is a permanent aspect of our inner selves and is not separate from us at any point. We do not have to travel to find it or imagine that it resides only in the body of another. In fact, what the best teachers will do is point out that this very precious elixir is something we already possess.

So when we find ourselves on our path, not knowing which way to turn and wishing for guidance, we can turn to ourselves. We may not know the right answer rationally or intellectually, but if we simply ask, let go, and wait patiently, an answer will come. The more we practice this and trust this process, the less we will look outside ourselves for teachers and guides for we will have successfully become our own.

Not in the “Writing Every Day Trap”

although, I probably should be. 🙂 My week has been crazy with lots of work stuff to do. Yesterday my coworker was gracious enough to train about 20 people on this program we’ve been having to transition people over to. We’ve had over 125 people to train, and I was getting burnt out. Next week should be “the end” of that. Thank God.

My car should be out of the shop next Thursday. The repairs to it from my bumper car incident: $3,000+. Not a good thing just before Christmas, but we’ll handle it.

Have a good day, everyone. 🙂

Thanksgiving, Football and Hockey, Oh My

We’ve just spent the last couple of days near Dallas with my family, including my parents, my 2 brothers and their wives and a total of 7 kids. Well, one kid is a high school kid, so he pretty much counts as an adult, but the rest needed to be managed. The youngest was a year old and the oldest, other than the high school kid, was around 11.

Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful, and way too much, as usual.

On the way home (an 11 hour trip, by the way), we were able to catch the Oklahoma v. Oklahoma State game on ESPN on the Internet. Couldn’t actually see the players, but we saw a graphic that showed us the plays as they were happening.

We were also able to read that Bill Callahan was fired, after leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers through a 5 – 7 season. Football is a big deal in Nebraska, and not going to a bowl game is a big deal to some people. Personally, we don’t care for Nebraska football, but we think the firing is a little silly. There’s more to football than coaching, you know, but then he’s making the recruiting policies, too. Well, not anymore. Still, firing this man probably means paying him the $5 million he was signed up to get in the next several years anyway.

And, since I’ve taken up a sudden interest in hockey, we listened to the Canadiens play Buffalo on XM Radio. I would have rather watched, because “getting” a hockey game is more difficult when you don’t understand the vocabulary behind it, while just listening. But I did learn there are 3 20-minute periods and 2 intermissions… and most of the players penalized in last nights’ game were penalized for “hooking“, which means that they used their stick to prevent someone from moving.. when they weren’t supposed to.

How was your Thanksgiving?

Bumper Cars

On the way to work today, I found myself in the midst of a traffic accident (my own). I looked away for a second to turn on my heat, and when I looked up, I was a foot away from the back end of a Toyota RAV SUV. I slammed on the brakes, but the pavement was wet, so I slid right into it.

We got out of our cars and I asked how she was. She had a sore neck from the sudden impact. Her car appeared to be no worse for the wear. My car had a totally messed up bumper, a sliced-through license plate and a bent hood.

I called my husband, who came down to the site of the accident to make sure I was alright. I called the police. The officer asked the other driver if we needed a report. She said, “Yes, just to document what happened”.

I asked her several times about her neck and she said she was going to let it ride and see how it goes. She made a point of saying, “I’m not going to screw you..” I said, “I’m not worried about that… I’m just worried about you.”

I got a ticket for following too close (way too close, I guess) and have an opportunity to go to traffic school to get rid of the ticket. It would help me at work. They don’t like tickets there.

My husband decided to immediately take the car into the collision shop. The insurance company blessed the repairs. The collision shop is all set to repair. It’s good to get it done and over with.

Part of me wonders about the lady whose vehicle I hit. I mean, when you screw up, it’s nice not to hurt other people in the process.

On the other hand, it could have been a lot worse. We passed another accident where an ambulance had been called. 😦 Also, I’m grateful my daughter was not in the car at the time. I guess there is a bright side.

Weekend Stuff

Our supposed goal this weekend is to rip up carpet. The carpet is being replaced because we found some good carpet on sale, and because our existing carpet is probably 15-20 years old. To save money, we are ripping up the old carpet and getting rid of it.

We are hoping our new carpet will be at Home Depot by early next week. We will be out of town for most of the week, so we’re hoping for a Monday installation (Nov 26). We’ll see how that all goes.

The pain is going to be getting our furniture out of the way for the carpet installers. We only have two places to shove things… well, maybe more. Options:

  • The dining room
  • One of two bathrooms
  • The lower living room, if we really feel like lugging things around
  • The kitchen
