We’ve just spent the last couple of days near Dallas with my family, including my parents, my 2 brothers and their wives and a total of 7 kids. Well, one kid is a high school kid, so he pretty much counts as an adult, but the rest needed to be managed. The youngest was a year old and the oldest, other than the high school kid, was around 11.
Thanksgiving dinner was wonderful, and way too much, as usual.
On the way home (an 11 hour trip, by the way), we were able to catch the Oklahoma v. Oklahoma State game on ESPN on the Internet. Couldn’t actually see the players, but we saw a graphic that showed us the plays as they were happening.
We were also able to read that Bill Callahan was fired, after leading the Nebraska Cornhuskers through a 5 – 7 season. Football is a big deal in Nebraska, and not going to a bowl game is a big deal to some people. Personally, we don’t care for Nebraska football, but we think the firing is a little silly. There’s more to football than coaching, you know, but then he’s making the recruiting policies, too. Well, not anymore. Still, firing this man probably means paying him the $5 million he was signed up to get in the next several years anyway.
And, since I’ve taken up a sudden interest in hockey, we listened to the Canadiens play Buffalo on XM Radio. I would have rather watched, because “getting” a hockey game is more difficult when you don’t understand the vocabulary behind it, while just listening. But I did learn there are 3 20-minute periods and 2 intermissions… and most of the players penalized in last nights’ game were penalized for “hooking“, which means that they used their stick to prevent someone from moving.. when they weren’t supposed to.
How was your Thanksgiving?
