Easy Chicken Wings

You don’t have to go out and spend a lot of money on restaurant hot wings. These turn out great and don’t require any work at all.

Get this stuff:

A package of 12 chicken wings. (If you get Smart Chicken brand, they cut off the wing tips for you. This is a good time-saver)

A bottle (16 oz) of wing sauce. You can get Lousiana Hot Sauce, Cookies Wings and Things Sauce, Hooters Wing Sauce or just whatever you find in the grocery store. Look in the condiments aisle (where the ketchup is).

A can of dry bread crumbs (plain works fine)

Turn the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a pan with aluminum foil. Lay the chicken wings in a single layer. Pour the sauce on evenly. Sprinkle with the bread crumbs. Bake for an hour.

Serve with ranch or blue cheese dressing, carrots and celery.

The wintry weather… and a few pets

Proof of the snow. I love the “common area” our house shares with the neighborhood. It’s so parklike and pretty, regardless of the weather.

Another view

The snowy dog (she’s eating… can’t sit still for too long, right?)

The quaker parrot who is happy he is not outside in the snow. His name is Joey.

Wierd Weather in Nebraska

Ok, so it’s 40 degrees and it’s raining, sleeting and thundering. Go figure. Later, it’s supposed to snow.

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect… Snow…heavy at times…will continue this evening. The heaviest snow through 8 PM is expected to be from near Fremont south through Wahoo to Lincoln. Snowfall rates in this band may reach 2 inches per hour…with some thunder-snow possible. Otherwise…snowfall rates will average around a half inch to an inch per hour. Snowfall through 8 PM will generally be around 1 to 3 inches. As winds increase later this evening to 15 to 30 mph…expect blowing and drifting snow to increase across the area with visibilities dropping below a half mile at times.

One Year Later

Today has been all about “relief” and “gratitude”. I was comfortably able to exhale, look back, and realise that I’m in a good place.

It was today, a year ago, when I was unexpectedly without a job. The place that I had gone to for 20 years made it abundantly clear that I was of no further value to them, and booted my sorry behind out the door.

I was looking at a few of the emails I sent out that day, and it’s really amazing how “normal” things have become again. A year ago, I was experiencing daily, sometimes ALL DAY panic attacks. I made finding a job.. a job. An unpaid one.

And then, two weeks later, I had a new job. It’s been a transition, and one I didn’t think I would be able to adjust to, at times. But I survived the year.

Today, instead of going out of my mind because I’d lost control over my life, I was worried about finding my hamster, who’d escaped from her cage (found her, thanks). I was working on loading laptops and scraping up enough AC adapters for the slew of new hires soon arriving. I was making a trip out of the office to a client’s house to fix a computer. I was hanging out in the Harley shop watching an exotic animal show for “Family Fun Day”. I was spending time with my family and cleaning mud off my dog’s paws.

I was happy about surviving a year without my former employer. It was like a birthday, really, without cake and presents. It was an “I can live without you just fine” kind of day, and that felt pretty good.

Of course, I wouldn’t have made it to this spot as easily without loving support from my friends and family. Thank you so much.

The Departed

This is probably the best movie I have seen in a long time (if ever). It’s a mob vs. cop story that has you thinking hard throughout to figure out where it’s going next, and why… and how. The cast can’t be beat in the way of star-power; Leonardo DiCapprio, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon.. .among others.

There’s not too much I can say about what I enjoyed about this film that won’t give away too much. It all has to be a surprise, or it’s ruined, really. Let’s just say that Jack Nicholson is the classic bad guy.
You have to see it.

Up Too Early

It’s Sunday, and I had to get up at 5am so I could be mid-town by 6 to set up for the big annual fundraiser. Two laptops, two printers, a wireless router, 2 keyboards, 2 mice, a USB hub and making sure it all worked… plus moving one of the laptops and corresponding cables… twice.

It reminded me too much of the several months that I had a paper route and had to get up at 4 so I could deliver papers to an apartment complex. When I got home at 7am, I slept for the rest of the day.

That’s how I feel.. like I want to sleep for the rest of the day.

Can someone do my grocery shopping, please? 🙂

Weather Stinks

I’m tired of the weather. It’s felt like -20F here all week. I’m beginning to doubt the global warming theory, so I’m choosing to turn my heat up to 95 degrees, just to burn more fossil fuels. Obviously, global warming has not descended on this part of the globe yet.

Ok, I’m not serious, but it IS darn cold.

I still have to wear career-appropriate shoes outside. My feet are permanently frozen.

Enough is enough.

The Flood

First, has anyone seen my laptop power cord? I need it. Tell me where it is! 😦

Secondly, a pipe in the ceiling at work burst. Water came down over desks. Luckily, the ceiling was lined with plastic (?), so there was so mewarning before the major gush of water descended. We had time to cover up some machines and monitors. The surge protectors might be hosed, though.

So I spent the afternoon:
1. Changing, cause where did that water come from anyway?
2. Taking inventory of the machines that may or may not be damaged.
3. Moving machines to areas where people could work. Right now, there are 3 new people in IT.. temporarily anyway. But that’s ok. We could use some company.

Hopefully, tomorrow, some desks and carpet will be dried out enough to move some computers back to where they belong.

We need a new darned office space. This isn’t the first time this has happened.

The Little Mathemetician

Our daughter’s parent-teacher conferences were tonight. She’s in first grade. After looking through her writing assignments, spelling, reading, science, etc., her teacher says how great she is at math.

I told her that’s a very good thing to be good at. Some day, she’ll be able to add numbers for me, since I need a calculator to add 2 plus 2. 🙂

I enjoy the writing assignments the most. One was about a picnic (a story of one of our camping trips), where she said, “I cook marshmallows at night, and eat hot dogs in the morning.” Ok, then. I must have missed that one.

My favorite so far had to do with how dad likes to play girly games. It started out as a nice story about how dad likes to sit with her and read and play board games with her. Which are mostly girly, but he likes them.

lol

Then there was the one about sledding with my mom, but my dad stays home because he has two new knees. 🙂

The Bar Scene

Last night, The Little Kid went with her sister to The Lion King (The Broadway Musical). We had a last-minute invitation to my husband’s friend’s 50th birthday party. It was a bar in Crescent, Iowa. They hired a band.

When I was in my early 30’s, we hung out at a lot of bars, because we followed a particular band.

I don’t miss hanging out at bars, drinking beer, breathing in second-hand smoke. And franky, by the time the band started playing (9 pm), it was already past my bedtime.

I would never make it in NYC, would I?
