During my childhood, I spent some time watching British TV.    This may sound a little odd coming from a person living in the middle of the United States, but it’s true.  Fact is, my dad seemed to love the humour these men brought to Public TV via Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

I loved the splashes of colour and odd objects introducing the show.

I loved the silly walks and the Dead Parrot routine, and the Archbishop skits.     I laughed and laughed every time I watched the show.

I recently told this to someone I know who lives in the UK, and the response was, “Did you grow up in a British household?”

No, but sometimes it felt like it.

I really must get out and get my own copy of “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”.

What the heck?

I was watching a show called “100 Most Outrageous Moments”.   This newscaster at the BBC was leading into a weather report.    Elisabeth, the weather reporter was standing by.   The newscaster said, “It’s warm and wet in London.  Let’s check in with Elisabeth..  Are you warm and wet?”

Ok, then.

Elisabeth was too stunned to speak.   She just laughed instead.

Premonition

I watched this movie today. What I liked about it is that it was unpredictable. For me, it took a little while to figure out what was happening and how it could be fixed.

Close to the end, I shouted, “She should…” (not to spoil it for you) and that’s exactly what she did.

This movie could change your perspective on life and marriage (if you have a marriage). Pay attention, though. Initially, it’s easy to get lost.

Something New

This afternoon, I found some time to pick out my own movie on HBO On Demand. I chose “Something New”, although I was hoping for The Lake House. Even though it wasn’t my first choice, I’m glad I picked this one.

You can see a good review of it here.

There is something about Sanaa Lathan. I’ve seen her in a couple of movies, and her acting is really refreshing. When her character meets Brian, you already know what she is going to think of him, and it’s not good. It’s interesting to watch her progression through the movie, where she learns to not be so close-minded and to welcome new ideas and things into her life (hence the title, I imagine).

If you like romantic dramas, you’ll like this one. If you’re not convinced, watch the trailer.

The Departed

This is probably the best movie I have seen in a long time (if ever). It’s a mob vs. cop story that has you thinking hard throughout to figure out where it’s going next, and why… and how. The cast can’t be beat in the way of star-power; Leonardo DiCapprio, Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Matt Damon.. .among others.

There’s not too much I can say about what I enjoyed about this film that won’t give away too much. It all has to be a surprise, or it’s ruined, really. Let’s just say that Jack Nicholson is the classic bad guy.
You have to see it.
