Easter is coming

and we gave the Easter Bunny a few tips for shopping. The Easter Bunny has done a good job shopping, although he has not purchased the 3D Nintendo DSi, like our friend Stacie suggested. 🙂 (crazy girl)

I’m not sure what we’re doing for Easter dinner yet, although we have some nontraditional ideas, like steak and asparagus. Not sure what else will be involved. I’m thinking about deviled eggs and maybe a pie for dessert.

Ian said you’d never see such a large display of Easter things in the stores, but you’d see lots of large eggs like this or this.

Makes you want to spend Easter in England, doesn’t it?

It’s Hard to Know

What to say to a girl when it hits her, sometimes in the middle of Nebraska Furniture Mart, that she misses her daddy.    You can surround a girl with all the love and support she needs, but still, rising to the surface at times, is the sudden tug of missing someone she loves.    All we could say is that we were sorry she was sad and that we’re here for her.   It doesn’t bring her dad back, but what else can we do?

We take on the problems of the day, when there are some, and think about all the many good things to be happy about.    There are good reasons not to be sad, but I bet it’s hard to see them every now and then when you’re 10.

As my mother reminds me… “This too will pass.”   Time heals.   Maybe not everything, but at least it numbs things enough where we can focus on things we DO have control over.

Saturday Things

So we’re off to a poetry thing today at Barnes and Noble. This is the first public performance Ian’s had in awhile, so I’m looking forward to hearing him read. He’s on for an hour.

It is supposed to be 86F here today. Hard to believe, I think, but so far, it’s sunny and warming up. God knows it’s April in Nebraska, right?

The government in the US is still operating today. That’s good news for many people who are depending on income/doing their jobs.

Back to work on Monday. This is a good thing, right? I have mixed feelings. It’s good to be without too much stress, but it’s also good to be productive.

Week off

and it’s nice. Today’s temperature is supposed to be 71, which feels springlike (hey, the 80F’s are just around the corner).

I have bypassed “new hire week”, wherein I train new hires. I like training people, but it’s nice to have one break in.. I don’t know… 5 years?

I took Miss Brit shopping for new shoes, since her old ones are breaking down internally. We found some nice toners (her pick) at Kohl’s for $29.99. I was a little annoyed that I didn’t have a % off coupon, and no scratch cards were at the store, but the price was pretty good anyway (considering the first shoe she spotted was over $60.)

I am making donuts. (yay)
Yesterday, I helped Brit make chocolate chip/butterscotch chip cookies. She did a good job.

So overall, a good day. 🙂

Good Stuff is Happening

So, we’re winding down on one of our “projects” that has been going on for several months. It’s been a few months on the edge of my seat, really.

Have you ever had someone say, “I don’t wish to do that. Do this instead and then you won’t have to ask me anymore.” So you say, “Are you sure that’s what you want me to do”, and they say, “Yes. I will sign off. Just get me the paperwork.”

So you get the person the paperwork and there are all sorts of reasons why the paperwork won’t be signed today. Maybe in 3 weeks. Or maybe not. We’ll see.

It goes on to the point where you’re thinking, “Has this all been some sort of crazy joke to get us to do a bunch of work and accomplish nothing but create a boatload of frustration?”

Then, the papers are finally signed and you can MOVE ON. Moving on is good. Moving on is one less thing to worry about.

No, this doesn’t have anything horrible to do with my marriage. 🙂

Anyway, in other news, I have all of next week off. Thank you. I’ve been on-call all week and odd stuff has been happening. So, good luck to who is left. I’m not the one able to fix these things, just taking calls from people who are frustrated due to the problems. So I’ll have a week of quiet where I imagine they’ll have it all squared away by the time I return.

Yay for vacation. 🙂

Off to the zoo

When I realised this was the last day to buy a new zoo membership for $10 off the regular price, we decided to go to the zoo and buy the new membership in person.  Yes, we went to the Omaha Zoo again.  We like it there.

The fun thing about the zoo is that, if you have a zoo pass, you don’t feel as obligated to see the whole zoo on one day.  The zoo is big.  It’s not fun for me to walk the whole zoo.

So we decide to see a few things and then leave in a few hours.   Today, we saw orangutans, various monkeys, lions, tigers and bears.   The funniest thing was the really large orangutan sitting in a box.   Only his mahoosive head was visible.  As we were about to leave the orangutan forest, I spotted him putting his arms out of the box, reaching above to a rope, and using it to position himself, box still surrounding him, to another spot.

Once he was situated, he bent his arms and shoved them back in the box.   It made me laugh… loudly.

I played a game with the orangutan in the box.  I leaned to one glass window and said, “Come ouuuut…” and then to another, saying the same thing.   I kept doing it because he appeared to be watching me.  I thought maybe he would get out of the box to at least come over and smack the window to tell me to knock it off, but no such luck.

There are always interesting things to see at the zoo.

This year, admission to the iMax theater comes with the zoo pass, which I think is a great deal.  🙂

A day off

So, when I got the notice from Payroll saying I had 157 hours of vacation time to spend before the end of June, I thought, “Yeah.. I haven’t taken much time off in the last 8 months, have I?” I arranged for some time off here and there, which means I have a 4 day weekend. (yay!)

I turned my blackberry off yesterday to avoid peeking at work things, and did 3 loads of laundry, met Brit for lunch at school (where we dined on ravioli), did a bit of minor shopping, and cleaned parts of the apartment. It feels good to accomplish something, really.

Today we’re off to swimming lessons. Brit has a new pair of goggles which are identical to her prescription eyeglasses. She is excited to be able to see underwater. 🙂 They were only $20 goggles, too. Get your own at speedo.com (of course, if your eyes don’t match, then you are out of luck) 🙂
