Ambien is my friend

Last night, I was wired past 10:30. It was then that I thought, “Darn… shoulda taken an Ambien.” If you’ve not see the many, many sleep aid commercials, then Ambien is a sleep aid. For me, it works. For my husband, he might as well be taking a sugar pill.

I slept for awhile, then woke up at 3:15. I’m not sure what the deal is, but 3:15 often seems like a convenient time to start ruminating about things… adding up how much money is in my checking account, for example (or subtracting, really), thinking about my health (which is relatively fine) or my age or flying saucers landing on the roof and whisking my golden retriever away. It’s all quite logical (or not).

So you’d better believe that at 9 o’clock tonight, I popped a 1/2 an Ambien, and I’m planning to get some major sleep. Hopefully, there will be no emergencies in the middle of the night, cause I’ll sleep right through them.

Five Things You Don’t Know

I have taken up the challenge offered by ‘Gemmak’ to complete this meme. I have to list five things about me that I haven’t ever revealed in my blog. Here are the rules: 1. Get tagged 2. List five things that have not been revealed on your blog 3. Tag five others.

Here goes…

1. I hate clutter, but it is often around me.
2. I used to teach Driver’s Education.
3. I once owned an iguana. His tail had to be amputated due to gangrene. He bit me one day while we were injecting antibiotics. The tail grew back.
4. I used to play volleyball in high school. I quit because my coach played favorites.
5. I went to nursing school for a year, then decided I didn’t like science that much. Well, mostly microbiology was not my cup of tea. Stapho… what? 🙂

Tag, you’re it!

A Warm Day

Today, it’s gotten up to 77F, which is pretty warm for Nebraska in March. Our average daily temp is supposed to be around 50 degrees.

We decided to take advantage of the warm weather by going motorcycle riding. We chose a half-highway, half-city route. It was only about an hour, because the wind was aweful. I’m finding I have more fun riding in the city, just because I get a chance to hone my stopping skills. Taking off from a stop light used to be a chore, especially if it was on a hill, but it’s a breeze now. The only thing is judging when to start putting on the skids, so to speak.

Don’t worry.. I tend to stop way early of the stoplight, but I’m improving. 🙂

After we got home, we ate lunch and then The Little Kid and I headed off for the lake trail for some scooter riding. We took the dog, as well, and she loved the exercise. Whenever she sees her lead, she gets all excited. It’s fun to take it out when we’re not going anywhere at all, just to see her reaction.

Just kidding. I wouldn’t do that to her.

Someone down the street has their air conditioner on. Light weights. We can’t turn ours on yet, anyway, since it’s new and hasn’t been charged yet. That’s ok, though. In 70 degree weather, the ceiling fans will do.

Gosh, I kind of hate to go back to work tomorrow… 😦

Razor Scooter

Today, we bought this thing for my daughter. Don’t worry. We also bought a matching set of knee pads, elbow pads and wrist guards. She looks like “robogirl” when she goes out on it.
We’ve established rules:

1. The “I don’t care what you have to do to get off this thing before you get to the street”, rule.
2. Walk the scooter across the street… do not ride it.
3. When going downhill, keep one foot on the brake.
4. Mom waits at the street just in case of any equipment malfunctions. 🙂
I’m sure others will come along.
It seems to be good exercise, at least, and fun for her. It also forces me to get out and walk, which is good for me.

You snooze, you lose

After a long day of thought and figuring, we decided to ditch dinner as it was being cooked and head off to the Humane Society to see this dog. When we got there, there was another family in with the dog we had our sights on. We left, thinking that not all dogs who go into the adoption rooms are adopted.

Case in point: The Great Pyrenees from yesterday.

The Humane Society lady said to check the website to see whether the dog was still available, cause it’s updated every 2 hours.

The dog we wanted was adopted.

In retrospect, it was a good deal; a chow mix that looked almost like our Ted who died 2 years ago… microchipped and neutered… and a puppy, at that. It was sad, but we have our email address entered at the site to receive any updates should another chow mix arrive at the kennel.

Dab it.

The Humane Society (aka Dog Pound)

This afternoon, The Little Kid and I went to the Humane Society to look around.. and err… take a photo of a dog we’ve been looking at. I happily went from cage to cage, greeting each dog, telling it he/she is a good dog and giving them a little scratch. Because they like that.

In one of the cages, we saw a Great Pyrenees mix. It looked like it was part Australian Shepherd, cause it had all of the coloring for that. It was so pretty and so BIG.

As we were getting ready to leave the building, we saw a couple in the adoption room, chatting away… looking out the window… waiting. Down the aisle comes the Great Pyrenees. The dog wondered where it was going. It was looking up at the person holding his lead and looking into each room.

The dog enters the room. The people are SO excited. The dog is SO excited. Tears started welling up in my eyes. I grabbed my daughter and said, “Come on. Let’s go!”

Cause I don’t like people to see me cry.. even if they are happy tears. And I figured I’d better get the heck out of there before I found some way to bring them all home. 🙂

Ever see the Pedigree commercial… “I don’t know how I got here, but I DO know I’m a good dog…” Yeah… I can’t watch that one.

Something New

This afternoon, I found some time to pick out my own movie on HBO On Demand. I chose “Something New”, although I was hoping for The Lake House. Even though it wasn’t my first choice, I’m glad I picked this one.

You can see a good review of it here.

There is something about Sanaa Lathan. I’ve seen her in a couple of movies, and her acting is really refreshing. When her character meets Brian, you already know what she is going to think of him, and it’s not good. It’s interesting to watch her progression through the movie, where she learns to not be so close-minded and to welcome new ideas and things into her life (hence the title, I imagine).

If you like romantic dramas, you’ll like this one. If you’re not convinced, watch the trailer.

A Taste of Summer

Today, it reached 80 degrees here. A 50-year-old record high temperature was broken.

This morning, as I browsed through my closet, I had a tough time figuring out what I even wore last Spring. WHO STOLE MY SPRING CLOTHES? Actually, who would even want my clothes? Maybe I should put them on Ebay and get new ones. 🙂

So, the big news is that I soloed on my bike today. I went 10 blocks to the drug store without my husband’s bike to follow. It was pretty exciting, really. I had to watch out for traffic myself and by the time I got to the drug store, I had some riding confidence, which felt really good.

When the windows or open, or I’m outside, I can hear a motorcycle motor over any other noise (especially if it’s a Harley with loud pipes!) and it makes me want to ride.
