First Ice Skating Purchase

I made my first ice skating-related purchase today. $17 for a pair of warm tights. The Little Kid was using her regular winter tights, but the color cream can only take so much of a beating before they look dirty and ragged.

She did very good during her skating lesson tonight. The snowplow is pretty much mastered, and they’re off to gliding now.

During the free skate, the Russian expert skating guy had to come out to the floor because she was trying to spin and fell down.. wouldn’t get back up. It was pretty much the art of drama. She’s perfectly fine.

We’re thinking about used skates now. The rink skates are in pretty bad shape.

I know.

Run for your life! 🙂

Ever Have Those Days When…

You find it necessary to run down your list of everything you’ve done stupidly, or you wished you wouldn’t have done? This is part of the root of my morning anxiety. It pains me to know that you can’t fly back in time and erase things.

This morning, I started to make a list of things that I am glad I have not done.

  • I have not done any illicit drugs
  • I have not sold drugs to anyone
  • I have not slaughtered a cow. Really. That’s gross.
  • I have not stolen money
  • I haven’t gotten hot-headed and walked out on a job
  • I haven’t purposely driven my car into anything (well, except that yard when I was 15. But that wasn’t really my fault…lol)
  • I haven’t eaten worms or bugs
  • I haven’t launched off any nuclear weapons
  • I haven’t told any of my friends they are evil bastards, even though I sometimes want to.
  • I haven’t lied to anyone.. Wait. That’s not true. Liar! 🙂
  • I have not woken up in the morning and required alcohol to start my day

Things I try to do well…

  • Be a good daughter, wife, sister and mother, although some days I don’t think I’m succeeding enough
  • Be gainfully employed on a regular basis
  • Keep my house clean. (Nice try, eh?)
  • Not take any crap from anyone
  • Pay the bills on time
  • Not be careless with my resources… money, gas, food, stuff we need to live
  • Attempt to make up for those times whenI wasn’t quite up-to-par with other people.
  • Keep learning, in some way
  • Be a responsible pet owner
  • Be creative
  • Be sympathetic and caring to people and animals
  • Learn from my mistakes

Did this help me? I don’t know. Someday, someone will find a cure for early morning anxiety. Maybe I should have a beer when I wake up. 🙂

Meet Molly

Meet Molly, whom we adopted earlier this week. Molly is 4 years old. Her owner lived at my FIL’s retirement apartment complex, until he became critically ill and needed to place her with someone.

For the last month, Molly’s been housed at the vet’s office kennel. When we brought her home, she ran like a mad woman through the house and can’t get enough of the fenced back yard. She’s a little over-weight, but I imagine running like a mad woman will help her get the weight off in no time.

She’s not used to more than an older man taking care of her, but she’s warming up to us and to our golden retriever nicely.

They even forage through the bathroom trash together.

How nice. 🙂

Little Ice Skater-ina

The Little Kid had her first skating lesson today.

I don’t recall being in an ice rink before. It’s cold there. I showed up in my capris and summer sweater, and flip-flops. Nice one. Next time, it will be a sweatshirt coat and perhaps some socks, in addition to all that other stuff.

Anyway, she did really well. The first thing they teach is how to fall, and get back up. She learned the front and back (what I call..) snowplow. She went back and forth across the ice with her group about 20 times. There was no holding onto the wall today. 🙂

The last 1/2 hour of the skate time is free skate. The instructors skate with all of the kids, and the kids follow them around and try to do circles and whatever the instructors are doing. She only fell down a few times, which I thought was amazing.

I can’t even stand on ice skates. Something about tossing my foot into some bicycle spokes when I was younger… no ankle strength to speak of.

It was a lot of fun to watch, and some good exercise for her.

My weekend…

… was mostly uneventful. For a little while, we went motorcycle riding. We went to the Harley shop, and then back home. It was hot all weekend.. in the upper 90’s, to be somewhat exact.

Our fishing boat has been gutted and reworked to be leak proof. I wasn’t too worried about leaking, but my spouse was. I guess it would be bad for us to sink in the middle of the lake. So we took the boat out on the lake to make sure it was as water tight as we suspected. Just a few spots to patch, and it was ready for the water again.

I had to buy snacks and something to drink for 54 girl scouts. I bought pre-packaged cookies and 4 gallons of “orange drink”, cause it was on sale. 🙂 There will be 54 sugar-energized girls tomorrow afternoon. At least I am only taking one of them home.

We are seriously considering enrolling The Little Kid in skating school. Remember a month ago when I was terrified of her going ice skating? Well, she likes it, so lessons seem like a good idea. Good luck finding skates in the middle of July, though.

Oh, I saw a good movie this weekend. It’s called, “Deja Vu” with Denzel Washington. If you like suspense with a little scifi, you should check it out.

The Interstate Adventure

Ever since I got my motorcycle license, I’ve been afraid to go on the Interstate. The Interstate is busy, for one thing, and people drive well-over the posted speed limit for another.

As I was sitting at work yesterday, I kept thinking, “I should drive on the Interstate”.

I drove down the street that I always drive on. As I approached the Interstate ramp, I could only think, “It’s either do it now, or wimp out and take the city street again.”

The day before, the city street was hot as hell. I didn’t know the street I usually take on the motorcycle was under construction, so I got to that hill, 95 degrees F, fresh asphalt, one lane, stop and go. It’s not fun to inch up a hill on a motorcycle. It’s possible, but it’s not something anyone on a motorcycle enjoys doing.

Anyway, when I got home that day, I was sweating buckets.

So, I told myself the Interstate would be so much faster, and I wouldn’t have to worry about construction. I got on the ramp. Once on the Interstate, I only had to go 65 mph to keep up with traffic, because it was rush hour.

Things went well, but I’m not sure I really liked the texture of the Interstate. It made me feel too much like I was floating, instead of gripped to the ground, like I feel on the street. I guess it’s the grooves.

When I got off the Interstate, I ran out of gas in my main tank. As I tried to reach for the reserve tank switch at the side of the bike (bad spot for it, if you ask me), I figured it would be safer to pull over and switch it on.

Then it was off to the gas station. 🙂

My Camera Is A Piece of…

… ever since it fell out of my pocket and landed on the cement, after falling only 5 or 6 inches. Such is the life of electronics in our home. We are either overly careless or there is an evil electronic hex over our home. It may be both. We can’t take ALL the blame, right?

Anyway, here is the best photo and the only video I took from the 4th of July.
