All About Her

Tonight, The Little Kid graduated from level 1 skating, even though she was having an off-night. Turns out she was tested last week, when her snowplow worked. Now all we have to do is coordinate Girl Scouts, swimming lessons and skating in the fall.

During a tense, rushed moment ealier in the night, TLK said, “I miss the old mommy”. My husband said, “This IS old mommy” (meaning, I am old… get it??). I asked her what she was talking about. She said, “The fun mommy, like when I was a baby.”

I told her I was not much fun then. And then she looked at me wierdly, like I was nuts or somethin’.

This is as fun as I get, honey. Till the day you get rich and famous and drag your mommy off to a beach in the carribean and slap a margarita into her hands. 🙂

At school today, I was there when she LIED to her friend. She said, “My mom says I’m too fat for my size”. OMG. I wonder what other things she tells people I say (that I really don’t!)

Blue Cat

Sunday, my husband caught a small blue catfish. It’s interesting the noise that catfish make when they come out of the water. I felt sorry for it.

We ended up releasing it because it was so small and we didn’t catch anything else.

This was our second catch of the year. The only other fish was nabbed by The Little Kid… a small sunfish.

We know the fist are there. We just can’t catch many of them. 🙂

If My Brain Explodes, Just Put it Back Together For Me, K?

I’ve had a day that would make anyone’s brain explode, but my head actually hurts because of severe congestion in my sinuses. The stabbing pains start at the top of my head and end at my ear. Someone make it stop.

I’ve been popping decongestants and Tylenol for the last couple of days and it’s not getting any better. I’m about to head for a long, hot shower.

How Not to Cast A Fishing Rod

My daughter asked me to cast her rod for her. I pushed the button and casted out. Then I neglected to hang onto the rod, which then landed in the lake. It was within arm’s reach, so I was able to retrieve it by leaning out of the boat and grabbing it.

And of course we laughed about it for a good 10 minutes.

80 Years Old

Yesterday, we went to visit Aunt C, my husband’s aunt, who was celebrating her 80th birthday. Aunt C is very alert mentally, and in my opinion, looks good for her age.

Her family threw her a party with cake and punch. Her friends and family from all over, as far as Wisconsin, came to celebrate.

She looks good for 80, and I hope she had a great day.

All it takes is a video camera, the Gmail M-velope, and some creativity. Submit your clip by August 13th, 2007 to be considered for the final collaborative video.

Closing Ceremonies of Girl Scout Camp

Today, although camp won’t end for a couple of days, were the closing ceremonies for Girl Scout camp. While the beginning of the experience turned out to be quite a dilemma.. field trips to parts of Omaha I wouldn’t even go to were involved.. it has proven to be a really nice experience.

My daughter met girls from all over the city. Although “base camp” was an elementary school gymnasium, there were frequent field trips to the pool, to museums, to the zoo, to a tree farm, and a week at actual day camp (the “wilderness” so-to-speak). She learned to ice skate, jump off diving boards and deal with a girl or two who were not nice. And we know ALL KINDS of new songs!
I learned not to be overly frightened of her going new places and trying new things. She was always returned safe and sound, usually bouncing around and full of a day’s worth of stories.
Overall, you couldn’t beat Girl Scout camp with any other program.
And I’m so proud of what she’s accomplished.

Robin Roberts has Breast Cancer

It’s not easy to say “I have breast cancer“. A few months ago, I was wondering if I would have to say those words and have to absorb them, do something about them and hope to survive to watch my daughter grow up.

I had a mammogram with no problems reported, but later on, some worrisome symptoms occurred. My doctor decided to have the problem checked out with an MRI. It was costly, even with insurance, but worth it for the peace of mind that “Nothing is wrong” gave me.

I plan to follow Robin’s story and not only pray for her well-being, but the well-being of all people who deal with the anxiety and treatment this disease brings.
