Just when I thought we’d been almost everywhere in Omaha, we went to Hot Shops Art Center. Hot Shops isn’t just another art gallery. It’s also a place where artists do some of their work, so you’ll see loads of art-making equipment, as well as shops and glass counters stocked with items to buy.
I enjoyed an area called “Into the Woods“, where cowboy hats made out of wood and tree carved wall hangings were displayed. You would think the wood would be heavy from the look of it, but it’s very light.
I’m betting it takes some time to make an actual sized cowboy hat out of wood.
It’s a nice place to wander through, take some classes and watch artists doing their work.
The artwork created at the Art Center ranges from drawings, paintings, prints, photography and digital imagery to sculptures, installations, pottery, glass art, weaving, custom furniture, and clay, iron, brass, and aluminum cast architectural pieces.
