You know there’s a problem

when you read your child one of her spelling words and she says, “WHAT??”, not like she didn’t actually HEAR you, but more like she has never heard the word before.

Or, more like she can’t believe she has to spell that word.  AKA… “Where did you find THAT word??”

Me:  “Ummm… your spelling list?!”

This has been the first week in awhile where the words’ meanings weren’t readily apparent, like “legislature”.

Me: “Do you know what a legislature is?”

Her:  “No”

Of course, it didn’t help that spellingcity.com said that “fiction” was a “large division of something”.   “Faction”, I could see.   I suppose “fiction” COULD be a large section in a library… depending on the size of the library.

  1. Sounds, to me, like spelling city is…er….good on the spelling but bad on the definitions?

“A large division of something” = fraction?

Even then I don’t agree with that definition; for example: 1/10,0000 of an inch would be quite a *small* division of an inch. 🙂
