We buried Sarafina/Mousie in the garden, amongst the plants. The neighbor boy came over to see why we were digging a hole.
“Our hamster died, and we’re going to bury it,” I explained.
“You should set it out on the water,” he suggested, “then it will float a long way.” I wondered for a minute where he got this idea, and thought about a movie or two I’ve seen where they sail boats onto the water with candles lit on them, or toss a letter in a bottle out to sea.
TLK came outside with the box our hamster was in. She asked the boy if he wanted to see it. He did.
“Aww..” he said, sympathetically.
He watched as I put the box in the ground, covered it up, then tore off a few flowers to place on the dirt above her.
Then they ran off to play.
One hamster sufficiently loved up and off to some happy place where hamsters go. Some big place full of tubes, I reckon, exercise wheels, and carrots. Or, hey, just fields of flowers. 🙂
awwwwwwwwww. sometimes i think weenies can handle death better than grownups xx

Hamsters go to Rainbow Bridge. Certain of it. :o)
We bury our loved pets (we don’t have any unloved ones!) under the cherry tree. There are two rabbits, two hamsters, two gerbils and a huge goldfish, yes, you guessed it, he was too big to flush. I think it’s nice to give them a nice burial.
Sleep tight little hamster. :o)
Tan – Very true.
Daffy – I have several pets buried in various spots. 3 birds, 2 hamsters and a piranha. The piranha was a little too big, also. Not that I would have flushed him if I could.

Awwww….how typically childlike tho for the little boy to want to look….and for TLK to offer to let him. Gotta love the way kids handle that stuff :o) Sounds a perfect little hamster burial….they just don’t live long enough :o(

Still remember when our daughter’s hamster died when she was away, and even worse, when my dog died when i was away on holiday….i never saw it buried.
Such is how the little ones learn to handle death……

Gem – True. 🙂
Harry – Oh no… That would be terrible to have your dog die while away on holiday. I know a lady that happened to. She was so mad at the kennel for not notifying her the dog was sick, but then, they thought her dog was normally not energetic.
OK… let’s talk about happy things!
