It’s Saturday!

And apparently, it’s dive into Spring day, as well.   I plan to partake by spending a little time outside (carefully prying myself away from my computer so as not to traumatise myself), clean the house, throw open the windows and locate a couple of greenhouse candles  at the Yankee Candle store.

I’m off to get my hair cut at a real hairdresser; not the usual friend of a friend I normally go to, who happens to be more of a barber.   She does a good job, but a lot depends on whether she is in a good mood or not.   So a new hairdresser, totally random.   Cross your fingers for me.

Now, go do something springlike, would you?

Periods of Uncertainty

“We’ll make it through this period just like we made it through other periods of uncertainty during my presidency,” Bush said, when explaining that he did not believe the US is headed for recession.    I had to laugh.. I’m sorry.   Did he say that out loud?   I guess if I were the president, I would have ended my sentence at “uncertainty” and called it a day.

According to Wikipedia (sorry), “a recession is a slowdown in a country’s gross domestic product (GDP), or negative real economic growth, for two or more successive quarters of a year. A recession may involve simultaneous declines in coincident measures of overall economic activity such as employment, investment, and corporate profits. ”

My guess would be that (from a spending standpoint) the failure of people to spend as much as desired for a healthy economy may have a little to do with rising prices, overextended credit and the sucking dry of wallets due to ridiculously funded (subprime) mortgage loans (thanks to low teaser interest rates, which are now ballooning to 11% and more).   People are losing their houses right and left.

People who, for whatever reason, are voluntarily selling their houses, will take losses, due to taking out second mortgages to fund home repairs (eliminating equity) and lower home values (possibly 10% lower than today’s prices in 2009).  Banks trying to sell foreclosed homes will take losses, as well.    There could be a bank crisis as a result.

“8 million households are already upside-down on their mortgages and …we could see that number go to between 16 million and 24 million by the end of 2009.”

No recession?  Really?

Too Funny

Sometimes, as I go through my day, I think, “Hey, I should blog about that…”.  I had several moments like that today, and now I can’t remember any of them.   🙂

I think by the time I made it half through the day, my friend Gem was probably ready to dump a barrel of chocolate over my head and tell me (quite nicely) to shut up.   Hormone overload.   Send help.  Now.

It snowed a ton here yesterday.   It was all wet snow.   It melted on the ground, then froze overnight.  It made for some interesting footage on the news.   A man in a pickup truck found out how slick it was .. just a little too late… then slid into two cars.   At first, I was watching the damage happen, but then, when it replayed later?   I watched the driver’s reaction, and boy was he pissed!   I don’t blame him.  Stupid driving is hard to overcome.  Just ask me.  🙂

I, however, made it to work in one piece.   Did some work.   Had a nice chat over lunch.   Came home.   Ate fish.   And here I am.

Forgetting what I was going to blog about.

Contact Lenses

Something odd happened at the eye doctor today.   I thought a long time about whether or not I wanted new glasses or I wanted to switch to contacts.   They had an interesting idea.   Since I need bifocals, they opted to make my dominant eye the one which can see far away, giving me a contact lens with the correct prescription, -4.25.    The other eye will be the eye that reads close-up, so it got a reading glass prescription of -3.0 (normally -4.5ish).

It’s an adjustment.   Sometimes my eyes get confused as to what they are supposed to be looking at (close up or far away) and I have to close them and reopen them to get back to normal.    A couple of hours into the new process, I think I’m doing pretty good.

At first, I have to admit, I thought, “No freaking way!”, but after the doctor suggested that I should try it because I would have no need for reading glasses, I opted to try it for a week.    Then I could really read AND I could really see far away…   Wow!

Nap Time

Today, my mind was so wound up that it required a nap to resituate itself.   For the hour that I slept, I slept hard.  I know, because when I woke up and looked at the clock, it was 3:30, but I wasn’t immediately sure if it was day or night.   I wasn’t even sure what day it was.    I walked into the kitchen and saw the light streaming in through the window.    I remembered that I had, indeed, been taking a nap, and that it was Sunday afternoon.    This is why I don’t *do* naps.   Nine times out of 10, I wake up disoriented, only because sleeping is for night time for me.   Ever wake up confused like that?

Mommy and Me

Yesterday, my daughter was very mommy-oriented.   Well, she often is.   I enjoy being her point of refuge at the end of a long day.     But that day, she wanted to read to me, so she read a book about dolphins.  I was amazed at the words she no longer stumbled on.    After awhile, she went to bed.  I tucked her in.   She said, “Mom… I wish sometimes you would lay down with me.  I miss the old days.”

How could I resist?   Sometimes, I miss the old days, too.

Lately, most of my days have been amazing, in one way or another, and I’m thankful for that.

Beaver Lake

Beaver LakeI went to this lovely place today, to install a broadband amp in a customer’s house.   Her house was right on the edge of the lake.    The lake is frozen over, of course, right now, but I imagined how it would look in the summer…. leaves on the trees.. boats floating on the lake…    It was beautiful.

The drive was around 45 minutes.   I’d begun to wonder, on the way there, if I’d gone to far.   Attempted to call my customer.   Dead zone.   Oh well.   If I got to Missouri, I would have gone too far.   🙂

Amp install, successful.    Got to play with a sweet little Llhasa Apso for a little while.   Left, went back to work.   The rest is history, really.

Tomorrow is Friday.  Wow.. the week just flew by!
