Red Leaf Lettuce Salad, Yummy Yummy

Ages ago, I promised a picture of one of my dinner salads. This one contained red leaf lettuce, avacado slices, roma tomato chunks, onion slilces, seasoned chicken breast slices, blue cheese dressing and walnuts on the top.

The flavors meshed nicely together. We agreed, though, that next time, some hard-boiled eggs would add some great flavor to it.

Life Lessons

We had to sit down with my daughter and explain how sometimes people are a product of their environment.

There’s a girl at school who my daughter said was always yelling at her. I’ve met her and felt sorry for her because no one would pick her as a partner for lunch, and she would be upset/pout because of it. If she’s always yelling, I can see why. Six-year-olds don’t know any better. They just know this girl is usually ticked off about something.

We found out purely by accident that this girl was being picked up by Child Protective Services today. I guess her mom is a drug addict and whenever this little girl was at home, she had either NO attention or all BAD attention from her mother. She didn’t have anyone at home to talk to or play with. She wasn’t taught how to wash herself… God knows if she ate every night or not.

Someone finally noticed a problem and called CPS. They went into her home and carried out bags and bags of trash. It was piled up so that you could walk on a clear path through the rooms of the apartment, and that was it.

We had to leave out most of these terrible details and tell our daughter that this girl is upset and shouting because that’s how she is treated at home. We tried to tell her to be patient and be friendly, if possible.

She tried to talk to her today and the little girl told her to leave her alone.

At least she tried.

Friviolity

I was laying in bed flipping through channels this morning and landed on this show where a designer was taking his clients shopping for new bedding. Their current bedroom is all WHITE, and they were trying to introduce new color to the room.

The woman wanted a lot of color. She found an ensemble she liked. The man said, “I couldn’t live with that!”

Ok… there are a lot of live or die issues in the world. A bedspread is not one of them.

Sometimes, it amazes me what people put so much effort into. I guess travelling around town with a home health professional and seeing inside some of the rougher houses in town kind of changed my outlook on things.

Cold, Cold, Go Away!

So the sniffling, my-nose-has-running-all-the-time, cold has turned into an “I have to cough a lot” cold. But I’m not one to complain. I just hope it goes away soon.

I spent part of my night last night watching, “Deal or No Deal” and reading a new book that I can’t remember the name of right now. I’d say around 8:30, the little kid and I passed out in the chair, watching Monday Night Raw (not that this was my idea… it’s just a standard Monday thing at our house).

I’m looking forward to the premier of The Medium on Wednesday.

At least it’s getting me away from my computer. 🙂 That’s good, right?

I overheard a lady today saying that she’s spending her Thankgiving days off driving to Colorado to see family. I could only think about how good it would be to get away for a few days… just to do something fun.

So if anyone has any free airline tickets, toss them my way. I need 3. Not the SPAM kind, though. lol

Severe Colds are not Fun

I’ve been dealing with a severe cold for about 3 days, plus, now. I’m thinking about buying stock in Hall’s Cough Drop division. I could certainly make money, just from my own purchases.

TLK and I are sharing this one, as usual, but kids don’t seem to be as miserable with colds as adults are. She is still giggling and playing, where I am taking naps at 1:30 in the afternoon.

Back to work today. Aren’t Mondays lovely? 🙂

Things that Stink

Girl Scout Hayrack Rides.

They look innocent enough, the hayrack rides do. In 30 degree weather, though? Not so much. I had on 3 sweaters and a coat. My face and feet froze.

My daughter stood in line for hot chocolate, and an adult hogged the last bit. The adult right in front of her.

We ditched the hot dog cookout in the freezing temps and went to Pizza Hut instead.

I made her hot chocolate at home.

Ever been amongst a group of girl scouts where some were unsupervised? Say around Jr. High age? Rowdy. They are just loud and rowdy. Not a good example for a 6-year-old, who I asked afterward not to turn out like that.

They were singing, “Joy to the world, Justin’s dead. We cut off his head! Don’t worry about the body; we flushed it down the potty…. “

And then there was the boy scout leader who went around asking people for hugs and talking up his boys, like they were the sexiest people in the world… “Oh… look at his skin… don’t you want to just kiss his face?” Umm… give me your badge number or name or something, dude. I want to report you.

This was going to be the day

where The Little Kid had two teeth pulled to make way for some permanent teeth. We decided to get a second opinion, and cancelled the appointment. I’m going to go get all of her dental records after work and then deliver them to a new pedodontist next Wednesday.

It will be handier having all our dental issues handled in one building, between the three of our family members.

Also, the original pedodontist did not have a gas option. I’m not sure I want TLK dosed up with gas, but I guess I’d like to have the option to. I just kept seeing her horrified at having a tooth pulled. I’m sure she’d get over it… we all do, but this is my little kid.

Anyone else had this done with their kids?
