The Baby

One of the hospice nurses brings in her baby occasionally. Today, I saw Melinda in her casual clothes. I knew the baby had to be around there somewhere.

The receptionist was holding him.

This baby loves blonds, so we hit it off right away. The last time he was in the office, he started to get upset. The receptionist called my phone and said, “You have to come up here right now. He’s crying.”

“Who?”

“The baby who loves you!”

When I hold him, he grins from ear to ear. Today, I had to give him back to mom so I could go look up an IP address.

I tried to tell them the baby was more important. 🙂

Living in the Moment

I’ve been listening to, “The Power of Now, A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment“, by Eckhart Tolle. As I listen, it becomes more obvious to me (a person who constantly tries to live in the past or the future) how much of life is wasted by not living in the current moment.

As strange as it sounds, if you can manage to use all of your senses to absorb “now”, maybe not ALL of your day through, but starting with a few moments out of the day, there is a certain joy that can develop in those few moments. They are free of worry. They are moments spent on yourself.

If you suffer from worry because you can’t let go of the past or constantly worry about what is going to happen in the future, you might consider getting this (choose the audio version.. trust me..) from the library and trying it out.

So far, it’s helped me sleep better at night, and try to observe how that little punishing voice inside my head is trying to punish me for every little mistake.

Inventory

I found out today that my boss expects me to be on the lookout for whatever servers they happen to order so that I can run up to them, grab their serial number, apply an asset tag and put them into the inventory.

It’s not that they haven’t done this in the past. It’s just that they haven’t felt like doing it, and I make a good scapegoat when confronted by the finance team.

“Lisa, why haven’t you been doing that”?

“Ummm… because I’m not invited to your little server parties and how would I know servers are arriving?”

“Well, it’s pretty obvious when a big box comes that it’s a server.”

(Oh, that’s right, I think. I am always at my desk watching every little thing you people do.)

Nevermind that I inventory everything that I order (way more than what they order). Now I have to inventory their stuff, too, which I don’t mind if they just tell me the stuff has arrived.

Pass the Jack Daniel’s Hurricane Punch, please.

My job is going to be a whole lot easier. I mean, all I have to do is be on the lookout for big boxes arriving. Forget about the rest of it.

Little Freaking Bastards

My Sun Sign

Last night, I spent over an hour compiling information based on my astrological chart.

This is all interesting stuff to me. The reading is based on the time of day you were born, where you were born and where the planets were at the moment you were born, as far as constellations. Your next question might be, “Well, how do they come up with the personality descriptions, then?” Umm… I guess there is one last place for me to still explore on the Internet, because I don’t know. But I’ll get back to you on that. 🙂

Anyway, here is my reading:

The Myth: Cancerians, we are asked to believe, are soft, soppy, supposedly sweet natured folk who can’t say boo to a goose. These kind, gentle timid types are fond of home and hearth, devoted to their families and keen to live as much as possible in a cosy world of calm and comfort. They exist only to please others and love nothing more than martyrdom!

The Truth: While this pretty piece of propaganda may accurately describe the soft underbelly of the crab, it makes no allowance for that terribly tough shell or those powerful pincers. Cancerians are quite capable of kicking up a fuss and putting up a fight. It’s just that they prefer a quiet life when they can get one. Thus, they wait till a crucial line has been crossed before letting their anger out. Once that happens though, they summon the same steely resolve that they normally apply to keeping trouble at bay. They reserve their own strength only because they are slightly scared of it.

The Key To Success: To be a Cancerian is to be blessed with an infallible inner radar screen. It is to care, passionately, about the people who matter to you and the causes that have meaning to you. It is to know, always, what must be done and why – and never to be wrong. Yet it is also to feel your best is never good enough, even though it certainly is. All you ever have to do, to be successful, is be yourself with a little more confidence.

You are interested in saving the world, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to. This group of people, above all, is not afraid to work. In a revolt against the destructively egotistical forces of previous generations, the Pluto in Virgo group may take it upon themselves to start from the ground up and establish a healing process to preserve the Earth for future generations. This generation is neither idealistic nor optimistic. They may feel like their efforts are just a drop in the bucket when it comes to the problems humans face, and they don’t expect anyone else to pick up where they left off. This won’t stop them, however. They are content with delayed gratification in their own lives and may be happy knowing only that they are doing their best.

Open and generous, you enjoy a wide circle of friends and acquaintances and you thrive on sociability and fellowship. You are adventurous, playful, freedom-loving, and always ready for a good time. You rarely allow obstacles or difficulties to keep you down, for no matter how bleak the past or present, you always expect a better, brighter future. In fact, you are uncomfortable with your own or other people’s problems and emotional pain. You often try to “cheer up” or offer philosophical advice to those who are hurting, but unwittingly you avoid or ignore the emotions involved.

Friendship means a great deal to you, perhaps even more than love or romance. For you to be happy, your mate must be your best friend and encourage your aspirations and ideals. You also need a great deal of emotional freedom and mobility.

You are a person of strong opinions and you express your views energetically and often dramatically. You are an entertaining speaker and will embellish or exaggerate in order to get your point across. You have an aptitude for story-telling and performing. Even if your arena is only the classroom or dining room table, you put on a good show. You have an abundance of creative ideas and do not enjoy a job in which you have no creative input or voice in decision-making. You could be a good politician, spokesperson, group leader, director, or coach.

Want to know how to spot someone with Venus in Gemini? It’s that person who is happily chatting up everyone at a cocktail party, a succession of flirtations and entreaties at their disposal. Those with this placement are wise and witty and always the life of a party. They are also friendly and engaging and often seek out others with those same qualities, enjoying a mirror image of themselves. Flexibility and an expansive mind are also hallmarks of someone with their Venus in Gemini, and that razor’s edge can lead to all sorts of delicious situations. Fancy staying up all night talking to your lover in a candlelit room with the essence of violet and juniper perfuming the air? Then the person with Gemini in their House of Love is the one for you! A note of caution, though: these talkers can also be tricksters, delighting in being a tantalizing tease. Potential mates who can take it as well as dish it back, however, should start lining up. Those with Venus in Gemini have the most restless of minds and inquiring natures, so their ideal partner is one who will always keep them guessing. How’s that for a mating dance?

Mars in Gemini brings almost insatiable curiosity to the intellectually blessed folk with this placement. You are extremely versatile, and your multiple interests are forever expanding. You are extremely open to new experiences and mental challenges, and are capable of directing your energies for cerebral searches. You would make an excellent lawyer or critic, as your observations are astute, and your communication is infused with your perpetual cleaver wit. You excel at asserting yourself through language, enabling you to talk your way into and out of any situation. An intellectually active partner would be perfect for you!

Saturn in Pisces : In order to succeed in your social position in the world you will have to gain knowledge and expertise associated with emotional understanding, compassion, humility and a sense of duty for those less fortunate. Life experience will force you to learn valuable lessons related to these issues. You are likely to gain some form of profound spiritual understanding – but not before you have overcome deep irrational fears, negative emotional conditioning and a wayward imagination. Your work in the world may be towards the care or education of others – perhaps in social work, hospitals, universities, religion or the arts.

Uranus in Virgo: As an Earth Sign, Virgo is not entirely compatible with erratic Uranus. However, Virgo has a flexibility of its own. When the two come together, they cause quite an uproar on the ground. Those born with this placement are geared toward picking the world apart from the ground up. You may find yourself questioning everything from your toothpaste to the government. The standards and systems by which those around you run their lives might not appeal to you at all. You solve your problem with the intact protocol, however, by developing your own, which usually works better anyway. Virgo is the Sign of service, which makes your generation helpful when it comes to the plights of the rest of the world. Changes you make, however, will be on your own terms — or not at all.

Neptune in Scorpio : Those born in the generation of Neptune in Scorpio have the potential for realizing the higher levels of shared material ownership on a planetary level. They are infused with the vision of the spiritual repsonsibility for the Earth’s resources as a whole. They are aware of the current human material values and the potental for transformation of those values that will lead humanity to a higher level of relating to the physical world. On a personal level, it indicates the dilemma of dealing with establishing one’s value with other people. It is the choice between idealistically expecting the automatic support of other people’s resources or responsibly defining material valus with them. It also deals with the choice between expecting automatic emotional fulfillment through sex or committing oneself to the self-purification that will actually bring about the realization of those ideals.

Pluto in Virgo: The Pluto in Virgo generation is interested in saving the world, and there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to. This group of people, above all, is not afraid to work. In a revolt against the destructively egotistical forces of previous generations, the Pluto in Virgo group may take it upon themselves to start from the ground up and establish a healing process to preserve the Earth for future generations. Frontline Top Spot

I was at the vet buying heartworm protection, so I figured I’d try the recommended liquid flea/tick protection instead of the nasty flea collar this time. I bought Frontline Top Spot. For a vial, it was around $13 for an 80+ pound dog.

The test was being able to locate the skin of my dog. If you’ve ever touched a golden retriever, well.. they’ve got a lot of fur. The goal is to apply all the liquid in a spot on the skin. Good luck. I mean, most of it got on her skin, but some of it is just on her fur.

I’ve never had a problem with the flea collar, really. But who knows how much my daughter is touching it.

Anyone else with a dog who’s preventing fleas or ticks? What do you use?

Disaster Recovery

Sorry about that design spew that’s shown up on my blog for the last few days. Sometimes 3 or 4 patterns all mixed together can be nauseating. I opted for a simpler header and some less nauseous graphics.

I miss messing around with web design, but sometimes, it can be a toss-up between what should be decorated and what should just be read.

I still haven’t decided which my blog is. 🙂

My Week

Monday… I rode my motorcycle to work for the first time. I travelled a little over 100 blocks to get there. Sometimes, I enjoy riding alone. It makes me plan my path and rely on myself to get there in one piece. It went without incident.

Saturday – My daughter tested for her level 2 swimming class and got into level 3! I couldn’t wait to see what the paper she had in her hands had to say. Proud makes me teary-eyed. I hope that someday this will not embarass her. If it does, what can I say? 🙂

Between Tuesday and today, it’s been raining here every day, with not much of a break in sight. I guess that means I will have to pay $3 a gallon to fill my car part-way up. I never put more than $20 in. Today, that will get me 1/4 tank. Ugh.
