So, one tip

for Americans who choose to shop with English citizens:   Prepare an autobiographical summary of the UK citizen before going to shop.

This will significantly narrow down questions from sales staff, such as:

  1. Where are you from, if you don’t mind my asking?
  2. How did you meet your fiancee, seeing that you lived 4,000 miles away?
  3. What about that political incident in 1953 when there was that thing that England did?
  4. Let’s talk about the upside and downside of the NHS, ok?   Because we might be headed in that direction.
  5. Where exactly IS Milton Keynes?
  6. Any other question involving something only a UK Citizen would know… petrol prices?   Riding the tube?   Gordon Brown?

After jewelry store #4, we hit the Verizon kiosk to talk about cell phone coverage.   The sales girl was mid “I don’t know anything about Verizon.  I’m a former Alltel employee” when she also had loads of questions about everything English.

I guess after 4 hours of searching for wedding rings, I may have lost a bit of my sense of humour.  😀

All fixed with roast chicken, wine and several “I love you’s” from Ian.  😀

So, here was my morning

I woke up at 5:30 and went directly to my computer because I knew Ian’s visa should be in his hands by now. And, I have 3 emails. One says, “Yay! I have my visa!” One says: “I booked my flight!” The other says, “Here’s my itinerary!”

LOL.

It was the best morning ever. 🙂

He’s arriving Sunday. THIS Sunday! Like… 5 days from now. So excited!

I have purchased enough things to make cottage pie and part of a full English breakfast. I know a shop that has the rest of what I need. Sorry, though, honey. I think you will have to eat American baked beans. 🙂

I have 3 days off next week. We are going out to drive on the wrong side of the street (his, not mine).

BTW, Visa process from start to finish? 7 months. Whew! Glad it’s over!

Approved, At Last!

What an amazing day! Ian and I have been working since April 1 just to get a fiance visa to the US. Approval came today after an interview at the US Embassy in London (thank God!). We are currently waiting for the visa and Ian’s passport to show up via courier. It’s anticipated this will be a 5 – 10 day wait. Then, he’ll fly over soon after.

We are finally able to be married in the US!

I cannot wait to see Ian again. It feels so very good to be at the end of this part of the process. I’m thankful for all of our friends and family who supported us along the way, and for those people who have become our family at VisaJourney.

Now, hurry up and get us our visa and our plane so we can make some solid wedding plans! 🙂

Odd Little Day

Monday mornings are not built for keys being lost and being 1/2 hour late for work.  Things seemed pretty calm after that.   I got to cover help desk, which kept me busy.   I learned a bit about visual basic programming.  I asked some people for a favor and they happily obliged.   I laughed with Ian.  I tried to set a record straight.  I was surprised by an act or 3 of human kindness.

It was a day.

There are only 8 more days till Ian’s visa interview.   8 days!

Yay!

Ian’s interview date has been set for 呦交小u女精品视频 21.  After that, we just wait 3 days or so to get his visa by courier, and then he can fly!

We’re very excited and will be doing “getting ready for Ian to show up” things in the next couple of weeks.  🙂

Biscuits

I found this link on Wikipedia that talks about the difference between English biscuits and American biscuits.   While I was in England, I made chocolate chip and walnut biscuits.  I had to chop up my own chocolate, because we could not find chocolate chips anywhere.

In America, I made biscuits and gravy, which is very high in calories, but also really good to have for breakfast here and there.

The link will tell you all about it.   Most English people I’ve met are appalled to hear “biscuits” and “gravy” so close together in the same sentence.   🙂

By the way, the photo of American biscuits and gravy isn’t very good.  That appears to be a drop biscuit, where I’d prefer the biscuits in the “American biscuits and honey” photo.

Gadgets

Just in the event you’re curious, this is what American cell phones and cell phone plans look like.   I see we even have T-Mobile service now, which we didn’t before.  I like the T-Mobile Sidekick, pictured at the left.

And… Netbooks have really come down in price.   Take a peek at Sam’s Club, where the Dell Netbooks are only $299.   At 8″ x 11″, I could get a smaller purse/bag, and stick this in it.

I have taken up prayer

Yes, I have.   I’ve been meaning to before this, but, well, my focus has been a bit lacking for awhile.   If the immigration/waiting process doesn’t turn me into a self-proclaimed schizophrenic, nothing will.   And, well, that’s more good news than bad.

So, on the way home, I thought about what a good prayer for this point in my life would consist of, and came up with a few things:

There are people in the world suffering from homelessness, starvation, mental unrest, war and other terrible things.   Provide for them in their time of need.   Provide for them abundantly.

Watch after our petition at the embassy (now that it’s officially arrived).   Let it be reviewed and approved in a timely manner, so that we can all be together as a family.

Thank you for this man, who cares for me, listens to me, understands me, supports me and makes me laugh. Let me be what he needs, as well.   Thank you for my daughter, who you entrusted to me, after many conversations with You.

Thank you for my family and friends.    You’ve taken care to place some amazing people in my life.

Forgive me for all of my past mistakes.  Thank you for this chance to learn from life, myself and others, and become the person You intended.

Amen

I have been to the sausage shop

Don’t worry, honey.  There are some in the freezer for you.   🙂

The first one is called an Omaha hotdog and the second one is Ian’s favorite:  a “round rueben”.   It’s got a bit of corned beef taste to it, and sauerkraut/cheese inside.

This is also the shop that we’ve heard the English back bacon is sold from, although I didn’t immediately see any out.   I’ll have to ask about it sometime.

In the meantime:  Collecting sausages and other fun things, like jars of marmite, Tetley teabags and root beer for when the man of the house arrives, hopefully in early 银河集团.
