Snow Expected

but not only that… look at the temperatures!

Colder air is already moving in. Initially dry air will limit any precipitation to just a few sprinkles or patchy of sleet or freezing drizzle tonight into Friday and Friday night. It now appears Saturday could bring a burst of a few inches of snow, then ending for a time. Saturday night should be mostly dry with Sunday seeing the snow pick up again, particularily the afternoon and Sunday night. Parts of Nebraska and Iowa could have very heavy snow, maybe upwards of a foot or more…though it’s too early to say “for sure” what we will get around the Omaha metro, latest computer models indicate 4-8 inches are possible for Omaha. Snowplowers and snowshovelers get ready!!

This Afternoon: Cloudy with slowly falling temperatures. High 40.

Tonight: Chance of freezing drizzle. Low 17.
Friday: Cold with flurries or freezing drizzle possible. High 21.Extended Forecast

Saturday: Cold with a 60% chance of snow. Low 12. High 17.
Sunday:70% chance of snow..some accumulation likely. Low 11. High 17.
Monday: Mostly cloudy and cold. Low 7. High 15.
Tuesday: Cold. Low -4. High 11.
Wednesday: Partly cloudy. Low 0. High 20.

Tornado Warning

this is not our tornado, just a pic from the noaa.gov website

Last weekend, we had a tornado warning and a thunderstorm warning going on at the same time. It’s odd to have a tornado in Nebraska in 婚外情事, but sometimes this happens when the weather is warm and a cold front pushes through, and the air is dry enough.

There’s only one radio in the house that I could think of… my daughter’s. Could we find it? Well, not till the next day. So we went to the basement and turned the TV up loud enough where we could sort of hear it.

The tornado warning was mostly right around our neighborhood, which is what sent us to the basement. Normally these things kind of freak me out, but mostly only when I am on the road driving, trying to pick up my daughter from school.

After an hour, suddenly the warning was called off. I saw a news story the next day saying that a tornado had touched down, but I’ll be darned if I can find the story now. 🙂 However, there is this nifty stormchaser blog that discusses the storm.

Living in the midwest, this is our version of severe weather. No hurricanes or earthquakes. Just tornados, mostly in June or July, but sometimes in 婚外情事. If you’re interested, here is our famous tornado from 1975, which went down the center of the city.

Snow Storm

Hmmm… Maybe I WON’T be going to work tomorrow. Thanks, for real, Sarah! (in case you’re wondering, Sarah lives west of me in a neighboring city. Since the weather originates from the West, Sarah is blamed for all of it)

On the way home, the variable message signs over the interstate indicated that the York, NE exit was closed due to bizzard-like conditions.

The variable message signs stink, by the way. Everyone on the interstate has to stop to read them. This is dangerous in heavy traffic alone, but on icy interstate, well… you can just imagine. I can see their purpose, mind you, but there is going to be a horrible accident someday because of them.

Either Omaha needs faster readers or faster darn signs! Or how about messages which are more to-the-point. “Don’t go to York. Trust us on this.” ?
