Well, I did it…

.. I took a ride on a motorcycle and did not dump it over. I came close a few times, but as I learned to relax and enjoy the ride, I did fine. I managed to shift into second gear and back down. I learned (the frightening way) that stopping very quickly with just the front brake was a bad idea (thank God for a good suspension!).

It’s all a matter of coordination and balance, but once you get the hang of it, it’s not so bad. I’m sure it’s going to be till next spring that I get out into traffic, though.

So you’re all safe for now. 🙂

Hi, it’s boring here…

Sorry, but it is. In between the regular, everyday stuff, I’m dealing with a couple of days away from my family to take a motorcycle safety course. Day 1 involved taking a tour of the motorcycle shop, looking through various protective gear and going through 1/4 of the necessary questions to get prepared for a test on Sunday.

The weekend will involve riding. I won’t be out on the streets or anything, so you’re all safe to mill about as you normally do.

Last night, I spent almost all of my time baking cookies for a United Way (charity) bake sale at work. Two batches yielded about 5 cookie sheets of big cookies. Half are peanut butter chip/chocolate chip and the other half are chocolate chunk. They are yummy. Want to buy some?

Other than that… nothing really. Have a good Thursday!

Hell’s Bells

… just one of the lovely tunes I’ve just synched to my mp3 player, along with:

Amiga – Sise
Everything You Want – Vertical Horizon
Mercy Came Running – Phillips, Craig & Dean
We Live – Superchick
Sightlines – Dujeous
Rock and Roll Ain’t Noise Pollution – AC/DC
Bad Day – Daniel Powter
Love Me Like A Song – Kimmie Rhodes
Thank You For Loving Me – Bon Jovi
Thank You – Dido

Back to work, back to work…

Last night, I lamented about returning to work after a week off. I saw, in advance, that my boss had a short list of discussion points and/or things for me to follow up on. Thankfully, our twice monthly one-on-one meeting was today, and I ensured him I was ontop of all that stuff. Unfortunately, the meeting brought up a few more things I needed to be working on, some of them fun Intranet design stuff, some of them “organize the server room” stuff.. Let’s just say I have enough to keep me busy for a few weeks.

Overall, it was a good day, though. I would rather be busy than sit around and introspectively examine my life all day… like much of last week. How depressing, right? Well, I suppose not for everyone, but it’s been a crazy year, ok?

Tomorrow, I start a rider class at a local Harley shop. I am going to learn to drive a bike…. a Buell, to be specific. It’s 6 hours of in-class instruction and 16 hours of driving. It all ends with a party and cake, so it can’t be THAT bad, right? “Don’t crash the bike… you’ll live to have cake.”

Yeah, baby.

California Pizza Kitchen

Thursday night, we went to California Pizza Kitchen, because their at-home flyer had been torturing us for a few weeks. I had the goat cheese pizza with japanese eggplant, yellow and red peppers and applewood smoked bacon.
It was the best tasting, unusual pizza I ever had. The crust was thin, but not cracker-like. The goat cheese was like a topping, not a cheese that covered the pizza. The eggplant was paper thin. Oh, and lets not forget the carmelized onion.
Next time, I’m thinking about the wild mushroom pizza, or the carne asada. There are also a host of interesting salads and pastas, as well as a kid’s menu my daughter was easily able to find something good on (cheese pizza).

My Brain is Going to Explode, and Other Fun Things

I’ve been dealing with a cold for the last 4 days. Coughing, sinus headache, sneezing. Yuck. No amount of Sudafed is helping. The only thing that appears to help is the Sudacare Shower Soothers, which are wonderful in Vanilla Mint. Not only do I get to get high on vanilla, which I love, but it also relieves my congestion right before bed. Another happy helper… Tylenol PM.

Notwithstanding, The Little Kid and I did a lot today. We bowled two games at the local bowling alley. We started with no gutter bumpers, then decided she would be miserably pouty without them. Once we kicked up the bumpers, she had a blast, until it was time to leave, of course. 🙂

Then, it was on to McDonalds, the park and then back home to ride her bike (her, not me).

We just got done with 2 games of Go Fish, and my brain is about to explode from extreme sinus pressure. The only question I really have is, “When did I take my last Sudafed?” Does anyone know?
