My Brain is Going to Explode, and Other Fun Things

I’ve been dealing with a cold for the last 4 days. Coughing, sinus headache, sneezing. Yuck. No amount of Sudafed is helping. The only thing that appears to help is the Sudacare Shower Soothers, which are wonderful in Vanilla Mint. Not only do I get to get high on vanilla, which I love, but it also relieves my congestion right before bed. Another happy helper… Tylenol PM.

Notwithstanding, The Little Kid and I did a lot today. We bowled two games at the local bowling alley. We started with no gutter bumpers, then decided she would be miserably pouty without them. Once we kicked up the bumpers, she had a blast, until it was time to leave, of course. 🙂

Then, it was on to McDonalds, the park and then back home to ride her bike (her, not me).

We just got done with 2 games of Go Fish, and my brain is about to explode from extreme sinus pressure. The only question I really have is, “When did I take my last Sudafed?” Does anyone know?

Compassion and Forgiveness

Samuel Johnson:
Kindness is in our power, even when fondness is not.

Mark Victor Hansen:
Lack of forgiveness causes almost all of our self-sabotaging behavior.

The Dalai Lama: If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.

Martin Luther King, Jr.:
Everybody can be great… because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.

Kahlil Gibran:
Tenderness and kindness are not signs of weakness and despair, but manifestations of strength and resolution.

“Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.”
Ephesians 4:32

Parent Teacher Conferences

Last night, we attended conferences for first grade at The Little Kid’s school. It was overwhelming to hear about the expectations for first graders. For example, they’re expected to write a paragraph containing a main idea, three pieces of fact about the main topic, and some type of closing sentence showing their feeling about the topic.

We got to see an example of this. I saw where TLK was attempting to put the paragraph together and was thinking it through, but didn’t know a lot of the words’ spelling. I asked, “Is she expected to know all of these words?”. I mean, there is a lot of red ink here in the form of spelling corrections. “No, only the words we’ve learned so far, but we’re beginning to look things up in the dictionary, too.”

Overall, the scores were good. She does love math, which makes me wonder if she was perhaps switched at the hospital. 🙂 She got an “E” for “exceeds expectations” where her penmanship was concerned. “She is careful and does it right, consistantly.”

We have a few things to work on… reading faster (they actually TIME words read per minute) and paying attention during science. It’s funny, though. When I ask her things at home, she knows them, but at school, sometimes she doesn’t. I’ll have to talk to her about that.

Appointments Stink

In my frustration at the pedodontist for not allowing me to schedule an afternoon (as late as possible) appointment for my daughter’s tooth extraction, I have discovered that I detest appointments. I am not sure why that is, but part of me wants the rest of the professional world to know, “Yes, we ALSO have to work!”

I’m not sure what I’d do with 2 kids and the ensuing appointments at doctors and dentists; hair cuts, girl scouts and parent-teacher conferences. I mean, what the heck?

Deep-down, I’m not so sure my superiors at work will be so willing to part with me a day here and a couple of hours there. Maybe I’m a bit overly self-conscious because I work with only guys and they’re really not taking much time off to go to appointments.

So, 小姑娘免费观看视频完整版 9th at 8am, two tooth extractions and a filling. And I’m sure … pain for the rest of the day.

Flickr’s Non-Pro Limitations

The other day when I was uploading photos, I came across a “Congratulations, you’ve just reached a limit as a Non-Pro customer.” It seems as though Flickr is suddenly holding my photos hostage because I have chosen not to be a “Pro” customer.

I suppose I can’t blame them for setting limitations, but it seemed rather sudden, and I probably have photos stored on Flickr that I don’t have anywhere else, so I’m going to have to go “Pro”, whether I want to or not.

I guess some sort of advanced warning would have been nicer. Maybe I slept through the advanced warning. Hmph.

Really, though… Doesn’t this sound like a ransom note?

Hey moonchild0821! About your photos…

You’ve run into one of the limits of a free account. Your free account will only display the most recent 200 photos you’ve uploaded. All of your photos beyond 200 will remain hidden from view until you either delete newer photos, or upgrade to a Pro account.

None of your photos have been deleted, and if you upgrade, they’ll all come back unharmed.

So I decided to make a Photoblog. For Free.

A New Experiment

I’m trying something different today. Instead of waking up and going through all of the most terrible things that could happen today, I’m picking good things to think about.

1. My family is happy and healthy right now.
2. I have a job that is becoming more comfortable to go to (don’t indulge in the “but’s”)
3. Halloween is coming, and all that goes with that.
4. I have all of next week off… what will we do with our time? I’m thinking of things, like visiting an orchard, going to see some horses, going roller skating, etc.

It sounds odd, but once you’ve been traumatised by something unexpected, you can wake up afraid of your day. I hate that. It’s beyond hating actually.. it needs to be disposed of. So today I’m thinking about walking in the water at the beach in Freeport, a place I was at 5 years ago. The water was clear and a light aqua color. The day was warm and exciting, due to being.. you know… out of the country and some place tropical. Shops were all around, and the inviting smell of exotic food filled the air.

Motorbike Ride

Today, we went on a brief ride on the motorcycle, just across town to the Harley shop and back. On the way back, we stopped at Scooters, for lack of an available Starbucks. It was a cold ride, and coffee sounded good.

I had a vanilla latte, which was wonderful, and a chocolate chip cookie. The best part was the little livingroom-like area at the back of the store… a leather couch, some leather chairs and a fireplace to keep warm by. Not only that, but “feel good about life” books, like, “Chicken Soup for the Mother’s Soul” laying around.

I could have spent the day, but someone got bored. lol
